Virginia Tech is a public university that was established in 1872. It encompasses a total of 2,600 acres. Business Information Technology, Environmental Informatics, Nanoscience, Cinema, Landscape Architecture, Multimedia Journalism, Packaging Systems and Design, Construction Engineering and Management, Agricultural Technology, International Studies, and Fashion Merchandising and Design are some of the majors available at Virginia Tech.
Virginia Tech maintains an inclusive research and innovation community, from undergraduates to research scholars. It has collaborated with the government and businesses to carry out R&D, technology transfer, and commercial research programs. Virginia Tech has a global community of students who come from all over the world to study. It has also worked with international universities on student and faculty exchange programs. Virginia Tech offers study abroad opportunities to students and annually sends over 1200 students on study abroad programs. Financial aid and scholarships are available to students interested in studying abroad.
It is a research powerhouse, with seven research institutes and two university research centers that provide research opportunities to undergraduate and graduate students. Aside from their studies, students can join over 600 clubs and organizations.
The University is located on a 2,600-acre campus in Blacksburg (population: 43,609), 38 miles west of Roanoke; branch campus abroad in Switzerland. Major airport serves Roanoke; bus serves Christianburg (eight miles); train serves Clifton Forge/Roanoke (38 miles).
