Established in 1947, the University of North Carolina, Wilmington (UNCW) is a public university located in Wilmington, North Carolina. It was initially founded as a junior college and later got its university status and current name in 1969. It is a part of the 17-campus UNC System.
UNCW offers a full range of baccalaureate- and graduate-level programs, as well as doctoral degrees in educational leadership, marine biology, nursing practice, and psychology. The Randall Library of the university provides information resources, services, and programs relevant to the needs of students, faculty, and staff. The university also has several research institutes, centers, and extensions.
Along with the academic facilities, the university has a theatre and recreation center that supports multiple clubs and activities, including Yoga, Pilates, and an Aikido club. The university houses NCAA's Division I members fielding 18 teams, 8 varsity athletic teams for men, and 10 for women.
