University of Delaware

Established in 1833, the University of Delaware is a public research university located in Newark, Delaware. It has its roots dating back to 1743 when a small private academy was first founded. It now is a research-intensive, technologically advanced university with global impact. The university has a main campus in Newark and four other campuses in Dover, Wilmington, Lewes, and Georgetown.

The university is home to a few of the oldest research institutes in the world including the solar energy research institute - Institute of Energy Conversion (IEC), the disaster research center, along with several other research centers and institutes. It has contributed in the fields ranging from life-saving medicines to making the Mars spacesuit and so on. 

The university library houses close to three million books along with half a million electronic books and journals. It provides free access to the general public to its depository of US government publications.

Along with the academic facilities, the university has over 300 student organizations and organizes several concerts and other arts & cultural activities. The university has two student publications called The Review and UDress and student-run radio and television stations.

The University is located on a 2,011-acre campus in Newark (population: 32,549), 12 miles from Wilmington, 30 miles from Philadelphia, and 50 miles from Baltimore; branch campuses in Dover, Georgetown, and Wilmington. Served by bus; major airports serve Baltimore and Philadelphia; train serves Newark and Wilmington. School operates transportation to southern Delaware.
