The University of California, Santa Cruz, also known as UC Santa Cruz or UCSC, is a public research university located in the city of Santa Cruz in California state. This land-grant and the space-grant university were established in 1965 and are part of the ten campus University of California system.
The campus sits atop a 2000-acre land 121 kilometres south of San Francisco. While the southern part of the campus is a large meadow area, the north part of it constitutes all the buildings. The university has five academic divisions and offers 59 undergraduate majors, 35 minors, and 40 graduate programs with over 60 tracks.
According to the National Science Foundations, UCSC spends over $155 million annually on research and development. Its faculty includes 13 members of the National Academy of Sciences, 24 fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and 33 fellows of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

The University is located on a 2,000-acre campus in Santa Cruz (population: 62,864), 75 miles from San Francisco and 30 miles from San Jose; branch campus in Silicon Valley and extension in downtown Santa Cruz. Served by bus; major airports serve San Francisco and San Jose; train serves San Jose. School operates transportation to the Bay Area.
