The University of California, Santa Barbara which is also known as UC Santa Barbara or UCSB is a public research university which is located in Santa Barbara city of California state. It was initially funded in 1891 as an Independent Teacher’s College and was added to the University of California system in 1944. It is the third-oldest general-education campus in the system.
UCSB is located on the cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean and is completely autonomous from the local government. The beautiful campus sits atop a 708-acre land that houses all academic units, and a majority of housing and residency.
UCSB is a comprehensive doctoral university that has 5 colleges and schools that offer 87 undergraduate degrees and 55 graduate degrees. As it is a research university as well, it has 10 state-of-the-art national research centers. According to the National Science Foundation, UCSB spent over $234.5 million on research and development. It has 12 National Research Centers, of which 8 of these are supported by the National Science Foundation.
