The University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) is a public research university located in Los Angeles. It has its roots as old as 1882 as the Southern branch of the California State Normal School. It became the Southern Branch of the University of California in 1919 and is the fourth-oldest of the ten campus University of California system.
The university offers 337 undergraduate and graduate degree programs in various fields through its six undergraduate colleges, seven professional schools, and four professional health science schools. Its campus houses 163 buildings across its 419-acres land located in the western part of Los Angeles.
UCLA’s faculty, alumni, and research staff have over 24 Nobel laureates, 3 Fields Medalists, 5 Turing Award Winners, and 2 Chief Scientists of the U.S Air Force. Fifty-five of its current faculty members were elected to the National Academy of Sciences, 28 to the National Academy of Engineering, 39 to the Institute of Medicine, and 124 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
UCLA was founded to create, disseminate, preserve, and apply knowledge to better the global society. UCLA endeavors to integrate education, research, and service so that each of them enriches and extends the other.
The University is located on a 419-acre campus in Los Angeles (population: 3,844,307). Served by air, bus, and train. School operates campus transportation system.
