University of Alabama, Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is a public research university in Birmingham, Alabama. It is a comprehensive urban university with a nationally recognised academic health centre. UAB is the only public, four-year degree-granting university and is the largest research institution in Alabama. It is the largest single employer in the state, with more than 23,000 faculty and staff and over 53,000 jobs at the university and in the health system.

The main campus of UAB is home to the medical centre that houses the health science schools and their teaching facilities, including the UAB Health System (UABHS). Most academics and arts buildings, residence halls, and student life facilities are based on the main campus. Athletics facilities, including Bartow Arena, are only based on the main campus. 

UAB has eight library locations and over 150 student organisations on campus. The UAB Recreation Center houses four basketball/volleyball courts, four racquetball courts, four aerobics studios, weight and cardio-fitness areas, a game room, kids zone, aquatics centre, centre court gym used for indoor soccer, floor hockey and badminton, juice bar, indoor track, and a climbing wall.
