Established in 1899, Texas State University is a public research university located in San Marcos, Texas. It is the largest institution in the Texas State University System and the fifth-largest university in the state of Texas. The university has two campuses- the main campus in San Macros and a Round Rock Campus, just north of Austin.
The main campus is spread across an area of 550 acres and consists of 245 buildings. The university offers more than 200 bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree programs in the fields ranging from biology to music to business to geography and more.
The university is known for its cutting-edge research and has an expenditure of $64.6M in research and development. The university operates a Science, Technology, and Advanced Research (STAR) Park, technology commercialization, and applied research facility. The major areas of research focus include Translational Health, Resilient Societies, Teaching, and Lifelong Learning, Environmental Stewardship, and Powering Innovation.
The university has more than 400 academic, artistic, social, and service-oriented student groups and organizations. The university has many art galleries, maker spaces, sports fields, and a creative studio. It also houses coffee spots and many restaurants. The university has its own radio station, marching band, dance team, and television channel. Hillview is the magazine for Texas State University which attracts a lot of attention from the local residents of Texas. The university sponsors 16 men's & women's NCAA Division I teams.
