Established in 1915, Tennessee Tech is a public university located in Cookeville, Tennessee. Initially, it was known as Tennessee Polytechnic Institute. The institute was granted university status in 1965 and renamed Tennessee Technological University.
The university campus is spread across an area of 267 acres and has 87 buildings. The university library houses 367,000 books and e-books, 100,000 periodicals in print or microfiche, and over 100 electronic research databases and resources.
The main focus of the university is on courses related to engineering and technology, though other courses are also offered. The university offers around 44 bachelor's degree programs and 20 graduate programs.
On the sports front, the university has 4 NCAA Division I teams, including men’s baseball, basketball, football, cross country, tennis, and golf; and women’s basketball, cross country, softball, soccer, track, volleyball, and golf.
The university’s location in Cookeville is an added advantage. It is the greatest affordable college town in the country by Great Values Colleges. Students can swim, hike, canoe, boat, fish, hunt, backpack, picnic, and camp to their heart’s content. There’s a drama center, a university-based symphony, art galleries, museums, and a world-renowned craft center just down the road.
