Sacred Heart University

Established in 1963, Sacred Heart University (SHU) is a private Roman Catholic university in Connecticut, New England. It was founded by the Most Reverend Walter W. Curtis, Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgeport, Connecticut. and was the first Catholic university in the United States to be led and staffed by laypeople. The university is home to students from more than 57 countries.

The main campus of the university is located in Fairfield, Connecticut, less than 60 miles from Manhattan and approximately 150 miles from Boston. The campus sits on more than 100 acres, with an additional 200 nearby acres including a University-owned golf course. It has additional campuses in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stamford, and Griswold part of Connecticut. Its West Campus in Fairfield was the former General Electric world headquarters and is home to many SHU STEM programs. 

The university offers more than 80  bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degree programs. The university offers over 60 study abroad programs in 30 countries around the world, including SHU campuses in Luxembourg and Dingle, Ireland. Students of the university also complete clinical service hours, capstone projects, or service learning hours globally in locations such as Guatemala, Haiti, Jamaica, Uganda, and India. 

Sacred Heart University has 100 social, academic, leadership, service, media, multicultural, and performing arts clubs and organizations. Its Pioneers field 32 NCAA Division I athletic teams, 29 intercollegiate club sports teams, and an intramural program.
