New Jersey Institute of Technology

Established in 1881, the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) is a public research university located in Newark, New Jersey. It was initially founded as Newark Technical School which aimed at providing industrial education and was renamed NJIT in 1975. It is also a land and sea-grant institution, and a member of the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture.

Located in Newark, the largest city in New Jersey, the NJIT campus has an outstanding infrastructure. The location of the campus is very favorable for students due to its short distance from New York City. The university campus is spread across an area of 45-acres. The university houses two libraries and also hosts a historical archive. NJIT offers around 50 undergraduate and 60 graduate degree programs in various fields.

The current research projects at the university are underway into everything from cybersecurity and smart materials to neural prosthetics and wearable robots.

NJIT has over 130 student clubs and organizations. The university also houses relaxation lounges, an open-air roof garden, a games room, and a bowling alley. NJIT sponsors 19 varsity sports teams, including 2 club-level teams.

The University is located on a 48-acre, urban campus in Newark (population: 278,427), 10 miles from New York City. Served by air, bus, and train; other major airport serves New York City. School operates transportation to bus and train stations.
