Michigan State University

Originally founded as the Agricultural College of the State of Michigan in 1855, the university got its current name in 1964. Located in East Lansing, three miles east of Michigan’s capitol in Lansing, the Michigan State University is spread over a 5,300-acre campus. The university also uses nearly 20,000 acres throughout Michigan for agricultural and natural resources research and education. It also runs a campus in Dubai. 

Michigan State University is a diverse community of dedicated students and scholars, athletes and artists, scientists and leaders. It is home to students from more than 138 countries. 

As of 2018, the university has a total research expenditure of $715 million. In terms of academic subject ranking, the university ranks in the top 40 in the world - in Plant and Animal Science at No. 8, Agricultural Sciences at No. 18  and Environment/Ecology at No. 38.

Michigan State University has several museums, art galleries, planetariums and horticulture gardens. Along with academics, the university houses excellent athletics provisions including several stadiums, centers and individual sports facilities. It provides one of the largest intramural sports programs in the nation. The university has more than 900 registered student organizations. Student media at the university includes the State News and Impact 89 FM radio. 

The University is located on a 5,200-acre, suburban campus in East Lansing (population: 48,554), 90 miles from Detroit. Served by bus and train; major airport serves Detroit; smaller airport serves Lansing (airport 8 miles from campus). Public transportation serves campus and surrounding areas.
