Massachusetts Institute of Technology

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) founded in 1861 is a private research university in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It has 166 acres of campus and is divided into two halves - one Massachusetts Avenue which includes student life facilities and dormitories and the other half consists of the academic buildings.

MIT has 30 departments from 5 different schools which include engineering, architecture and planning, arts and social sciences, humanities, science, and management. The institute had around 1000 faculty and more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

MIT is also known for its research in the areas of digital learning, Big data, sustainable energy, and human health. More than 85% of MIT's undergraduate students enhance their education by engaging in faculty-led research through its Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP).

The institute focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation and has more than 500 vibrant and diverse student organizations where students can choose from different extracurricular activities starting from music, dance, and sports to celebrating different cultures and religions.

The university is located on a 168-acre, urban campus in Cambridge (population: 106,471), across the Charles River from Boston. Major airport, bus, and train serve Boston.
