Hofstra University is a private university located in Hempstead village of New York state. It was initially founded in 1935 as an extension to New York University under the Nassau College-Hofstra Memorial of New York University. However, it became independent as Hofstra College in 1939 and gained university status in 1963. The university offers 160 undergraduate and 170 graduate-level programs through its ten academic schools.
The university sits atop a 244-acre campus with 117 buildings. It is located in the village of Hempstead, which is to the west of California Avenue. The campus houses an Arboretum and bird sanctuary, with diverse trees and a touch of dutch origins. The university is also famous for major Presidential conferences and hosting three consecutive Presidential Debates.
The university has a Student Success Collaborative department that collaborates to support the students throughout their time at Hofstra University. It connects their academics with personal experiences to achieve current and future goals. The university brings together the resources of the Career Center, Center for Academic Excellence, International Student Affairs, and many more to achieve this.
