Florida International University (FIU) is a public space-grant research university in Miami city of Florida state. It was initially founded in 1965 and is now a member of the State University System of Florida. It is Miami’s only public research university that offers 191 academic programs, 60 baccalaureate, 81 masters, 3 specialists, 34 doctoral, and 4 professional programs through its 23 colleges and schools.
FIU has two major campuses in Miami, with the main campus being the University Park and the regional one being the Biscayne Bay Campus. It has several other campuses and research centers throughout South Florida and globally in Tianjin, China, and Nervi and Genoa, Italy. Its main campus sits atop a 344-acre land and houses almost all the university’s colleges and schools along with its administrative buildings and other facilities.
FIU is designated as a top-tier research university and research is a major part of the university’s mission in serving its students. For over four decades now, FIU has solved the world’s many critical issues through its world-class research facilities and capabilities. Some of them are sea-level rise and childhood mental health disorders.
