These centers include the internationally-renowned Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Center and the National Natural Toxins Research Center, one of the only federally funded viper centers in the country. Other centers of excellence include the Eagle Ford Shale Center for Research, Education and Outreach, the King Ranch Institute for Ranch Management and the Citrus Center located in Weslaco. The Citrus Center is known for developing new varieties of citrus, including the Rio Red, Star Ruby and Texas Red varieties.The university's reputation as a top-tier institution of higher learning goes far. The university is located in Kingsville, a city that was recently listed as the 16th most affordable college town in the country. In addition, Texas A&M--Kingsville is recognized for keeping college affordable. In addition, starting salaries for Texas A&M--Kingsville graduates are among the highest in the state.
