VFS Global, which runs the Visa Application Centers (VACs) for UK and Ireland, announced on Monday (29 June 2020) that a phased resumption of visa services is being planned for these two countries from 06th July 2020 (next Monday).
The UK Visa Application Centers in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru (Global Tech Park only), Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Kochi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Mumbai (Mahalaxmi only), New Delhi (Shivaji Metro Stadium only), and Pune will start accepting visa applications (including student visa applications) from 6th July 2020. The remaining Visa Application Centers and Enrolment locations in India will not be open for some time, except Chennai which would be open as soon as the lockdown ends.
The Ireland Visa Application Centers in Mumbai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Jalandhar, Chandigarh and Kolkata will resume accepting student and long-stay applications from 6 July 2020.
Customers must have an appointment to visit the Visa Application Centre and priority would be given to the customers, who were unable to attend an earlier appointment due to the nationwide lockdown in the wake of coronavirus. Customers, who were unable to attend an earlier appointment, will be able to log into their account to book a new appointment and customers, who have completed their application, but didn’t previously book an appointment at a VAC, can do so now.
Keeping in mind the safety of its customers and staff, VFS is advising its customers visiting the VACs to maintain physical distancing, undergo temperature checks, wear facemasks etc, as per MHA guidelines. Customers exhibiting COVID-19 symptoms, including fever (higher than 37.3 degrees Celsius), cough or difficulty in breathing will be asked to reschedule their application submission for another day.
Certain services like Super Priority Visa, Priority Visa Service (visit), Priority Visa for settlement or migration Service and Walk-in services are currently not being offered. VFS is also strongly advising all its customers to purchase Courier Return of their documents, so that they do not have to visit the VACentre again, after a decision is made.

This is surely good news for students aspiring to study in the UK and Ireland for this September 2020 (autumn) intake. We anticipate that there might be quite a rush for booking appointments since the VACs have opened after a gap of close to 100 days and hence advice students to hurry up in processing their offer letters / CAS and book their VAC slots at the earliest.
